A senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official, speaking here on Wednesday, hailed a China-Switzerland joint project to train government officials.

Li Yuanchao, who is a member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the Secretariat and head of the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks while meeting with Walter Fust, director general of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.

Li told Fust, who is here to renew a five-year cooperation program with China on training government officials, that such cooperation serves the interests of both sides and helps cement bilateral friendship.

He expressed appreciation for the extended agreement of the training program and the contribution that Fust had made to promoting Sino-Swiss cooperation.

In response, Fust said that he appreciated China's support and concern for the project, and he added that Swiss expected to step up cooperation with China in human resources development and public administration.
