With the written confirmation from the Marshall Islands in Oceania to participate in the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, a total of 201 nations and international organizations are confirmed to participate in 2010 Shanghai World Expo, announced Hong Hao, director of the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination, on April 10. The number of exhibitors has reached a historical record, Hong added.
During the period to apply to be host of the 2010 World Expo, the Chinese government had officially announced that if Shanghai hosted the 2010 Shanghai World Expo, China would make efforts to draw in 200 countries and international organizations to attend the Expo, and to create a new record.
On March 22, 2006, the letters of invitation signed by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao were delivered through diplomatic channels to the 168 countries that have diplomatic ties with China, marking the launch of preparations for the 2010 World Expo.
Among the 201 exhibitors, 49 are from Africa, 44 are from Asia, 41 are from Europe, 22 are from America, 15 are Oceanian countries, and 30 are international organizations. Among them, 9 countries confirmed to join, such as Palau, Guatemala, and the Marshall Islands do not have diplomatic relations with China.
At present, the Shanghai World Expo Bureau continues to work hard and strive for the participation of more nations and international organizations.
