The resolution on Tibet passed by the European Parliament on Thursday has rudely interfered into China's internal affairs and seriously hurt the feelings of the Chinese people, said Foreign Ministry spokesperson Jiang Yu Friday night.

The resolution, adopted after secessionists-instigated violent unrests ravaged Lhasa and other ethnic Tibetan areas last month, urged European Union leaders to boycott the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics unless the Chinese government resumes talks with the Dalai Lama.

Jiang said in a statement the resolution "flagrantly distorted the history and modern reality of Tibet, rudely interfered into China's internal affairs, openly supported the secessionist stand of the Dalai Lama, confounded black and white on the violent crimes in Lhasa, groundlessly condemned the Chinese government, deliberately linked the Tibet issue with the Beijing Olympics, and seriously hurt the feelings of the Chinese people."

"China is resolutely opposed to and strongly indignant over the resolution," said Jiang, adding the Tibet issue completely belongs to China's internal affairs which brooks no interference of any foreign country or international organization.

She said the Lhasa riots, the assaults against Chinese embassies and consulates in Europe and the disruption of Olympic torch relay, all staged by the "Tibet independence" forces, have fully exposed the violence and independence nature of the Dalai Lama clique.

"The European Parliament turned a blind eye to facts. It did not condemn the Dalai clique who masterminded and organized the violent crimes, but instead emboldened the 'Tibet independence' violence and Dalai's separatist activities," said Jiang.

"We strongly demand the European Parliament respect facts, stop interfering into China's internal affairs, give up provocation and antagonism, and discard double standards on human rights issues," she said.

She also urged the European Parliament to stop providing platforms for Dalai's separatist activities and sending wrong political signals to Dalai and the international community.

Jiang also reiterated that the central government is ready to continue contacts and talks with the Dalai Lama on the condition that he sincerely renounces "Tibet independence" position and stops activities of splitting China, especially the inciting of violent crimes in Tibet and other places and the disruption of Beijing Olympics.
