Reports that China's national flags had been rejected for entry to Japan by Japanese Customs officials were unfounded, China said on Saturday.

The reports, carried on some websites, were untrue, said Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu.

The Beijing Olympic flame arrived in Japan for the 16th stop on its overseas torch relay on Saturday.

The Foreign Ministry has asked the Chinese embassy in Japan to verify the real situation. The embassy said it had not found any such incidents yet, Jiang said.
