Former Chinese Vice Premier Gu Mu was awarded by the Japanese Cabinet Office Tuesday with the "Honor of the Rising Sun," a commendation to domestic and foreign dignitaries.
Gu, 94, who served as China's vice premier in the 1970s, was awarded for his contribution to developing the Japan-China friendship and strengthening bilateral ties, the office said in its press release.
The Japanese government confers awards annually on April 29 and Nov. 3 to Japanese and foreign dignitaries who have made a great contribution to promoting friendly relations with Japan.
The events are called "honor-conferrings in spring and autumn."
