President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Monday sent a message of condolences to Chinese President Hu Jintao over the deadly earthquake in southwest China's Sichuan Province, the official Emirates News Agency reported.

UAE Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum also expressed sympathy to President Hu about the loss of Chinese people.

A strong earthquake measuring 7.8 on Richter scale struck Wenchuan county of Sichuan Province on Monday, leaving at least 12,000 people dead and thousands more injured.
