After learning about the powerful earthquake that shook Wenchuan County in Sichuan Province with a magnitude of 7.8 on the 12th, and led to heavy casualties, overseas Chinese in Japan, the United States, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Britain and other countries immediately took action: they called on all societies of overseas Chinese and people to make donations.

Overseas Chinese and Chinese students studying in Japan made donations enthusiastically to the earthquake-stricken areas. By the afternoon of the 13th, they had donated nearly 30 million yen through the Chinese Embassy in Japan. President of the Chinese Students Association in Japan Li Guangzhe handed over a 1 million yen-donation to Ambassador Cui Tiankai, from the students in Japan. Li Guangzhe said that Chinese students in Japan are always concerned about the motherland and people of the motherland. Their hearts have always been close to the hearts of the people in disaster-stricken areas, and they hope that donations can bring calm and warmth to people in earthquake-stricken areas.
