The European Union Chamber of Commerce in China on Wednesday called on its members to make donations to support the relief efforts in the earthquake-hit areas.

EUCCC expressed its condolence to the loss of lives and property suffered by people hit by the 7.8 Richter scale quake which broke out Tuesday afternoon in Sichuan province and also affected some neighboring provinces.

EUCCC members and staff in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan province are safe. They are particularly shocked by the disaster.

In an email to its members EUCCC called on them to respond to the proposal by the Red Cross Society of China to offer assistance to the rescue and relief efforts.

EUCCC has more than 1,300 members.
