China has taken very quick and effective response to the massive earthquake in southwestern China, said Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Muhammad Sadiq Wednesday.

The rescue work is well-organized by the Chinese government and the updated information has been learnt by the international community through media and other channels, said Sadiq in an interview with Xinhua.

"We convey our deep sympathies and express our solidarity with the Chinese people at the moment of tragedy," Sadiq said.

"We have offered to provide supply of relief materials and medical assistance at the requirement of the Chinese government," he added.

Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani have sent condolence messages to China immediately after the strong earthquake hit southwestern China on Monday.
