The Western Australian government announced on Wednesday it will donate 1 million Australian dollars (0.95 million U.S. dollars) to help relief efforts following last week's devastating earthquake in China's Sichuan Province.
Western Australian Premier Alan Carpenter said the aid would be given to the International Red Cross, which would deliver it to the Red Cross Society of China.
"On behalf of Western Australians, I express my sincere condolences to China and its citizens for what is a massive humanitarian tragedy," Australian Associated Press quoted Carpenter as saying in Perth, the state capital.
"This offer of aid is a small way in which our state, which is currently enjoying strong economic conditions, can help a friend in need."
Western Australia is booming in large part due to commodities demand from China.
The death toll from the devastating earthquake in China was 40,075 nationwide as of 6 p.m. on Tuesday, and another 247,645 people were injured, according to the Information Office of the State Council.
