China and Russia on Friday called on all countries to end clique politics and work closely for a better world.
"All countries should abandon the 'Cold War mentality' and clique politics, promote equality, democracy and collaboration," said a joint statement signed by Chinese President Hu Jintao and visiting Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Friday.
The seven-page statement, which came out of the two leaders' two-hour talks in the Great Hall of the People, outlined their common ground on major international issues.
"As the world is undergoing tremendous changes, the era requires all countries to pursue peace, seek development and promote cooperation," the statement began, with an overview of the world situation.
The trend of multi-polarization is irreversible, economic globalization is deepening, science and technology are progressing rapidly and global and regional cooperation is booming, the statement said.
While regional conflicts triggered by ethnic and religious contradictions frequently arise, the world economy becomes increasingly unbalanced and new threats and challenges emerge endlessly, the statement said.
It also noted the existence of unilateralism and power politics in the world.
The statement then appealed to all countries to work together to deal with shared threats and challenges and build a harmonious world of lasting peace and common prosperity.
While upholding the purposes and principles of the Charter of the United Nations, the statement said, all countries should observe the principles of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-aggression, non-intervention in internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit, peaceful coexistence, international laws and universally recognized norms guiding international relations.
Medvedev, who arrived in Beijing on Friday afternoon, was the first head of state to visit China following the 8.0-magnitude earthquake that struck China's southwestern province of Sichuan on May 12.
