Macedonia's capital city Skopje decided on Friday to provide about 30,000 euros in humanitarian aid to China's quake-hit Sichuan Province.

The proposal to offer relief aid was mooted by Mayor Trifun Kostovski and embraced by the city council, the official Macedonian Information Agency reported.

"The city of Skopje will earmark about 30,000 euros for this purpose as a sign of solidarity with quake survivors," news reaching here from Skopje quoted the City Council as saying in a statement.

The earthquake, measuring 8.0 magnitude hit Sichuan Province in western China on May 12. More than 55,000 people have been killed in the natural disaster.

The city of Skopje itself was hit by a 6.9 magnitude earthquake in July, 1963. About 80 percent of the city's buildings were damaged or completely destroyed and more than 1,000 people were killed.
