Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguoon Sunday thanked African countries' aid and support to China's quake relief, vowing to facilitate trade cooperation and cement friendship between both sides.

Dai made the remarks at a reception held by African envoys in Beijing to mark the 45th anniversary of Africa Day.

"Currently the relief work is proceeding in an orderly and effectively way," Dai said, adding the Chinese people would overcome difficulties and prevail over the severe disaster with the strong leadership of the Chinese government.

Concerning the upcoming Beijing Olympic Games, Dai said the preparations for the Games are in full swing, adding the Chinese people are confident to hold unique and excellent Olympic Games.

Cameroonian Ambassador to China Eleih-Elle Etian, also dean of the African Diplomatic Corps in China, expressed deep sympathy for quake victims and vowed full support for the Chinese government and people.

He said he had witnessed the fortitude and bravery of the Chinese nation during their struggle with the earthquake and snowstorm disasters as well as their preparation for the Olympics.

African countries expected to further step up cooperation with China, Etian added.

With regard to China-Africa ties, Dai said since the Beijing Summit of China-Africa Cooperation Forum in November 2006, the two sides had strengthened political trust, expanded cooperation in various areas.

Africa is an all-weather, sincere and reliable friend of China, he said, adding China is ready to further enhance high-level exchanges with Africa, facilitate trade and cultural cooperation so as to achieve mutual benefits and common development.

Dai also appreciated Africa's firm support on issues concerning China's core interests, such as Taiwan and Tibet issues.

On May 25, 1963, the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was established, a historic event for the African people. The African Union (AU) formally succeeded the OAU in 2002.
