The Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) Office has raised more than 70 million Vietnamese dong (VND) (about 4,300 U.S. dollars) for victims of the earthquake in China and cyclone Nargis in Myanmar.

NA Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong and office staff attended the fundraising event on Wednesday, the Vietnam News Agency reported Thursday.

The Vietnamese party and government officials have been donating their salary to help disaster victims in China and Myanmar.

Earlier this week, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nong Duc Manh, and staff of the party's organizations and the Foreign Ministry donated at least their one-day salary to help the victims in the two countries overcome the aftermath of the natural disasters.
