The Beijing Olympics official website recently released "A guide to Chinese law for Foreigners coming to, leaving or staying in China during the Olympics" (hereinafter referred to as "the Guide"). The Guide points out that ticketholders for the Olympic Games from overseas will not automatically be granted a visa. They still need to apply for a visa from China's overseas embassies.
The Beijing Olympics official website issued a notice saying that the Guide will be a reference for foreign athletes, officials and media reporters during Olympics to understand and abide by Chinese laws and regulations. It is based on existing laws and regulations; and the implementation will be in line with existing laws and regulations. The Guide is divided into eight categories that cover 57 issues including entry into and exiting the country, watching the games, travel, accommodation, transportation, catering, and entertainment.
The Guide says that those "who might conduct acts of terrorism, violence and government subversion," and those who "might be smugglers, drug traffickers, and prostitutes" will be denied entry. In addition, seven types of goods such as weapons and other items have been prohibited.
