The Editor-in-Chief of China's Xinhua News Agency He Ping on Friday called for enhanced cooperation with Joong-Ang Ilbo of Republic of Korea (ROK), jointly facing new challenges in the information era.

He made the remarks during a meeting with Kim Gyo Joon, chief editor of Joong-Ang Ilbo.

Xinhua and Joong-Ang Ilbo have maintained friendly ties ever since the two signed cooperation contracts in 1992, He said.

He called on the two sides to expand cooperation and learn from each other to cope with new challenges such as how to shift from traditional media to new type of media comprising multimedia service.

Referring to the Beijing Olympics, He said Chinese government and people are confident in and capable of hosting the event despite the devastating earthquake on May 12.

As the Games' host news agency and national photography team, Xinhua has the responsibility and obligation to provide all sorts of news services and assistance to media around the world, He said.

Kim expressed condolence to China over the natural catastrophe, saying he believed China could conquer the difficulties and host successful Olympic Games.

Kim expressed the hope that Joong-Ang Ilbo would upgrade friendly cooperation with Xinhua through the Beijing Olympics and expect to gain help from Xinhua on photo and video reporting of the Olympics.
