China's top legislature on Thursday ratified two treaties with Algeria on extradition and judicial assistance on criminal cases respectively.
The treaties, signed in November 2006, which aimed at promoting judiciary cooperation between the two sides and jointly launching attacks on transnational crimes, were passed in a meeting of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC).
The 24-article treaty on judicial assistance on criminal cases covered areas including application of the treaty, refusal and postponement of judicial assistance, criminal evidence collection, crime tools disposal and judicial information exchange.
With 22 articles, the treaty on extradition stipulated extradition responsibilities, extraditable crimes, justifiable reasons for extradition refusal, postponement and temporary extradition and transference of property.
The Foreign Affairs Committee of the NPC said the approval of the treaties was conducive to upgrading judiciary cooperation and forging friendly cooperative ties between the countries.
China and Algeria have witnessed steady relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1958, said Wu Daiwei, Foreign Affairs vice minister.
Criminal acts involving people from both countries happened from time to time as the two sides had increasing contacts, he said.
