The President of the Spanish Congress of Deputies, Jose Fono, lauded China's economic achievements at a meeting here Monday with Jiang Shusheng, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China.

As economic, political, trade and diplomatic cooperation between Spain and China has deepened, more and more officials and ordinary citizens of the West have had the opportunity to know China better, said Fono.

For his part, Jiang said bilateral ties have developed smoothly since the establishment of diplomatic relations 35 years ago.

Mutual exchanges have featured frequent visits by top leaders of either nation, significant achievement in economic, trade and financial cooperation and closer links in culture, education, technology and judiciary.

The Chinese NPC seeks to further boost friendly exchanges with the Spanish parliament and promote bilateral ties, said Jiang.

Meanwhile, at a luncheon hosted by a Spanish entrepreneurs' organization the same day, Jiang explained the significance of the China-Spain comprehensive strategic partnership for the two countries' industrial and commercial circles.

China's economic development has created abundant prospects for bilateral economic and trade links, said Jiang, adding that both Spanish and Chinese entrepreneurs should have the enthusiasm and confidence to intensify exchanges and cooperation.
