Enrique Dussel, a Mexican academician from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), hailed on Monday the great economic achievements China has scored during its 30-year reform and opening-up.

China, the largest country in Asia, has made important achievements and successes in terms of economic and social development in the past three decades, Dussel said in an interview with Xinhua.

The country, which has devoted great efforts in poverty reduction, has already become an important regional and world power, said the coordinator of the Center for China-Mexico Studies.

Dussel, professor in the Economy Faculty of UNAM, attributed China's remarkable economic growth mainly to the efforts of the Chinese people, a strong leadership and a better redistribution policy.

The researcher spoke highly of the development of China's agricultural sector, which has been radically transformed during the country's 30-year reform.

The role of the working class in constructing a new China should also be acknowledged, Dussel added.

While talking about the development of China's automobile sector, Dussel said he expected China would manufacture 9 million cars in 2008.

The figure could reach 25 million in coming years if China's auto industry maintains the average annual growth rate of 25 percent, he added.

As for the Beijing Olympic Games, Dussel said he believed that China would fulfill its commitment to stage a grand Olympics and wished the upcoming Olympics a great success.
