Uruguay issued a set of Beijing Olympics-themed postal stamps on Tuesday.
The set of stamps, inspired by the Beijing Olympic mascot Fu Wa, displays the lasting combination between stamps and sports as embodying the notions of peace, harmony and development that are cherished by all nations, said Maria Cristina Gonzales, chairman of the state post bureau of Uruguay.
While addressing the issuing ceremony, Julio Cesar Maglione, chairman of the Uruguayan Olympic Committee, believed that the upcoming games in Beijing will be the best sports event ever.
The Beijing Olympics will be staged in peace and friendship instead of being exploited by something that is irrelevant to the Olympic spirit, said Maglione.
Uruguay will send 12 athletes to the Beijing Olympics to compete for medals in six events. Source:Xinhua
