China will send an ambassador to the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN), according to foreign ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao, on July 24 when attending a routine press conference.

Liu said this is an important symbol for the profound development of China-ASEAN ties. China has appointed several special-mission ambassadors in recent years, such as an EU ambassador, special ambassadors for African affairs and Korean Peninsular affairs. These are new reforms in China's diplomatic practice which indicate China's future in-depth communication and exchange with those regions and countries.
