On July 29, "Strike—2008," a Chinese-Thai joint anti-terrorism training exercise, was completed. The concluding ceremony was held at the base of the Thai Special Forces 5th Corps in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Both sides are satisfied with the results of the training.

The exercise lasted 20 days, and each side sent 24 Special Forces troops to participate, forming two mixed teams to train together. This is the first time the People's Liberation Army has sent soldiers to another country's military base to train. The duration of the training was relatively long, and soldiers were placed in mixed teams. This is also the second time Chinese and Thai troops have trained together since last July, when they carried out "Strike—2007" in Conghua District, Guangdong Province.

Ma Xiaotian, deputy chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army, highly praised this training exercise as a cooperative anti-terrorism effort between China and Thailand, signifying that they are defending land and working toward world peace, contributing to international anti-terrorism efforts, and strengthening the longstanding friendship between the Chinese and Thai militaries.
