By 12:00pm on July 29, there were 11,223 journalists from all over the world in Beijing prepared to report. Half of this number were expected. Among them, there were 9,154 registered journalists and 2,069 unregistered. During the Olympics, it is expected that 21,600 registered journalists and more than 5,000 unregistered journalists from more than 200 countries and regions will be in Beijing and other parts of China covering the Olympics.

Among registered reporters who have arrived, 4,479 are from China and 4,675 are overseas reporters. A total of 2,069 unregistered journalists have arrived at the 2008 Beijing International Media Center.

Staff at the 2008 Beijing International Media Center said that since July 25 the number of overseas reporters has increased significantly. These reporters immediately began working at news conferences, group interviews and other activities. They can also apply for exclusive one-on-one interviews. In addition, foreign embassies in China and overseas media offices are busy booking rooms at the Beijing International Media Center.

Beijing Olympics spokesman Guo Weimin reiterated at the July 28 press conference that Chinese people are sincerely welcoming all athletes, coaches and friends from various circles, as well as Chinese and foreign journalists who cover the Olympics. "We hope the media can be objective and make factual reporting on a developing, changing and progressing China. "
