A "Day of Russia" was launched Sunday at the All-Russia Children's Care Center in far east Vladivostok to help students from China's quake-hit Sichuan province better understand Russian culture and traditions.

On the day, Russian students performed traditional dances for their Chinese friends. Exhibits were put on display at the center to introduce Russian culture, folk customs and snacks

Sergii Leliuhin, federal general inspector of the Russian region of Primorskiy Kray, where Vladivostok is located, attended the opening ceremony of the "Day of Russia."

Every nation has its own traditions, culture and habits, said Leliuhin, Russia is a multi-national state with long cultural and historical traditions. He wished the Chinese students could learn more about Russia through various activities on this special day.

Fang Xianrong, China's consul general in Russia's far eastern city of Khabarovsk, said the "Day of China" which was held a week ago and the "Day of Russia" opens this Sunday have demonstrated the Russian and Chinese peoples' readiness to further boost exchanges and mutual understandings for deepening the social basis of the two countries' friendly cooperation.
