Chinese President Hu Jintao met here Thursday with President of Laos Choummaly Saygnasone, who is in Beijing to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games and other relevant activities.

Hu extended a warm welcome to the Laotian leader on behalf of the Chinese government and people, and expressed appreciation of Laos' support to the Beijing Olympics.

The Laotian president said that he was pleased and honored to attend the Beijing Olympics, which is a grand gathering of people all over the world.

The Beijing Olympiad, drawing the attendance of over 80 heads of state and government and royals, will open at 8 p.m. Friday in the National Stadium in north Beijing, dubbed the Bird's Nest.
