Chinese President Hu Jintao met Thursday with President of the Republic of Montenegro Filip Vujanovic, who is in Beijing to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games and other activities.

Hu appreciated the support of the Montenegro government and people for the Beijing Olympics, as well as their sympathy and support for China's devastating earthquake.

He vowed to take the opportunity to exchange views with Vujanovic on boosting bilateral ties and other issues of common concern.

Hailing the progress of bilateral relations, Vujanovi said the two countries had stepped up cooperation in various areas. He extended sincere wishes for China's hosting of a "splendid" Olympics.

More than 80 heads of state and government and royals are to attend the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, scheduled for Friday night in the National Stadium, better known as the Bird's Nest, in north Beijing.
