Today (Aug. 24) many Jamaican sports celebrities, including flying man Usain Bolt, Powell Asafa, and Sports Minister Olivia Grange, gathered at Block Eight near the west gate of Chaoyang Park, to celebrate their remarkable achievements at the Beijing Olympic Games, as well as the profound friendship between China and Jamaica.
Jamaican Ambassador M. Cook organized the party. Among the guest list, there were many businessmen and diplomats who have partnerships with Jamaica. People from different backgrounds toasted the gathering and talked with big smiles. Actually, it was a harmonious international party.
During the party, Minister Grange delivered a speech to express a warm welcome to the guests and sincere appreciation for the BOCOG and Chinese people. When she spoke of "Chinese brothers and sisters," the audience broke out in loud applause and laughter.
Exposed under a burning sun, the alfresco bar was very hot. However, people enjoyed every minute. Various traditional Jamaican food were provided to satisfy the palette. The air was reverberating with rhythmic Jamaican music, to which Jamaican natives spontaneously began dancing.
When Usain Bolt appeared, the crowded bar was rocked with cheers. Bolt calmly chose his favorite food and sit down to enjoy the delicacies, chatting in a quiet voice with his teammates from time to time. People rushed to surround him and soon made a queue, waiting for his autograph one by one. Some people were given the rare opportunity to take a photo with this new star. And I was fortunate enough to get such a chance with the minister's help.
