Deng Xinzhi, a suspect involving in a 20- million-yuan swindling case, has been repatriated by Canada after spending five years in the country, the Ministry of Public Security said here Wednesday.

Deng, a native of Beijing, had allegedly extorted more than 20 million yuan from Jan. to Aug. in 2002 with others when he pretended to be an employee of an insurance company, China Life.

He fled to Canada in January 2003.

The repatriation of Deng showed the active attitude of Canada in upholding the law, the ministry said in a statement.

"We appreciate Canada's move and hope law enforcement departments on the two sides can enhance cooperation in the future," the statement read.
