Chinese State Councilor Meng Jianzhu Friday called for joint efforts by China and Singapore to respond to terrorist activities and transnational crimes.
"As the state-to-state relationship is continuously developing, the cooperation between Chinese police and Singaporean police has been increasingly closer," Meng, who is also Chinese Minister of Public Security, told visiting Singaporean Vice Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Wong Kan Seng.
He said he hoped the two sides make joint efforts to earnestly implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, strengthen contacts and enhance cooperation to effectively respond to terrorist activities and transnational crimes, in a bid to safeguard regional stability and the interests of both peoples.
He thanked the Singaporean police's support to China on the security work of the Beijing Olympic Games.
Wong congratulated China for hosting a completely successful Olympic Games and realizing the goal of "safe Olympics", saying the Chinese police has shouldered great responsibilities and made hard efforts for the security of the Olympic Games.
He said the Chinese police's highly effective work has provided the Singaporean side with a lot of experiences that they can learn from, and Singapore is ready to further strengthen law enforcement cooperation and exchanges with China.
