Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse told the visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Wednesday that his country will make every effort to maintain and enhance its friendly cooperation with China.
Rajapakse said Sri Lanka thanks China for its long-time support and assistance, adding that Sri Lanka will continue to adhere firmly to the one-China policy.
Yang said the Sino-Sri Lanka relations had continually progressed based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. He thanked Sri Lanka for its steady support on the Taiwan issue, Tibet issue and other issues.
Rajapakse said his government is devoting to find a political solution to the island's ethnic conflict and achieve national reconciliation.
Yang said as a friendly neighbor, China is paying close attention to the development of Sri Lanka's domestic situation. He said China hopes Sri Lanka achieve peace, stability and development soon.
Yang arrived in Colombo Tuesday evening for a two-day official visit to the island at the invitation of his Sri Lankan counterpart Rohitha Bogollagama.
He also held talks with Bogollagama and called on Sri Lankan Prime Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayake during his stay in Colombo.
