State Councilor Liu Yandong met on Thursday with staff from six Russian children's recuperation centers, which received children from China's earthquake-hit areas.
On behalf of China, Liu thanked the Russian government and the centers for taking care of the children during their recuperation.
"The Russian government and centers prepared fruitful activities for the students. The Chinese students also formed deep friendships with Russian children. I believe these children will grow [up to promote] Sino-Russian friendship," Liu said.
Russia gave many relief items immediately after China was hit by the devastating earthquake in May, and sent rescue and medical teams to the quake-hit areas. President Dmitry Medvedev also invited some students to recover in Russia.
"All these embodied the deep friendship between the two countries and peoples, as well as the unusual and well-developed Sino-Russian relations," Liu said.
A devastating earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter scale hit China's southwestern Sichuan Province on May 12, leaving more than80,000 dead or missing.
During his visit to China in May, Medvedev invited students from the quake-hit areas to spend some time in Russia for rehabilitation. Under the plan, 1,570 Chinese children will visit Russia this year and next.
