Netherlanders and representatives of international organizations here on Thursday congratulated China on its successful launch of the manned spacecraft Shenzhou-7.
China has made great progress in scientific-technological research over recent years and has exceeded Western countries in certain fields, academician of Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences Max Spoor told Xinhua in an interview, saying the successful launch of Shenzhou-7 again indicates China's achievement.
The cooperation between scientific-technological research institutions of the Netherlands and their Chinese counterparts are becoming tight and they would like to strengthen exchange with China in academic and space research area, he said.
Martin Dukker, Director of the Foreign Affairs Department of Rotterdam, said China is admired for continuous breakthrough in manned space flight in such a short period of time.
The success explicates that China has attached equal importance to scientific-technological research as to economic development. China is on its way to becoming a scientific-technological power while striving to be an economic giant, Dukker added.
Rogelio Pfirter, Director-General of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), said the successful launch of Shenzhou-7 is a significant step for China and the world in space scientific-technological research which reveals China's ability and ambition.
He wished flourishing development for Chinese scientific-technological research which he believes will contribute to the scientific-technological development of humankind.
German military attaché in the Netherlands L. Stellmann lauded the successful launch of Shenzhou-7. He said, benefiting from the 30 years of reform and opening up, China is showing rapid progress in economy and scientific-technological research which has been indicated by Shenzhou-7's blastoff.
On Thursday, over 300 people, including people from all walks of life in the Netherlands, foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations, attended a party held by the Chinese embassy to celebrate China's National Day which falls on October 1.
