A Communist Party of China (CPC) senior official on Friday met with a delegation from Japan's Social Democratic Party (SDP), pledging to cement bilateral ties.

Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee, spoke highly of the contribution to China-Japan friendship made by delegation head Soja Yougi, who once served as the SDP secretary-general.

Wang said he expected the non-governmental communities in the two countries to enhance exchanges in all fields.

He said the stronger ties were not only in the interests of the two nations, but also good for the peace and development in Asia.

Yougi said he would make continued efforts to lay a better public opinion foundation for bilateral ties.
