The seventh ASEM summit opens in Beijing

The seventh Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit started at the Great Hall of the People Friday afternoon. Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao presided over the opening ceremony.

Wen welcomed six new members of ASEM including Bulgaria, India, Mongolia, Pakistan, Romania, and the Secretariat of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
