Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping met here Saturday with visiting Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Jan Peter Balkenende.

When meeting with Gilani, Xi said China and Pakistan witnessed mutual understanding, trust and support since establishing diplomatic ties. The two countries are good neighbors, brothers and partners, he added.

"China thanks Pakistan for its firm support on the Taiwan issue and Tibet issue, and will always make the Sino-Pakistani relationship a priority among its foreign relations and promote it from a strategic and long-term point of view," Xi said.

He added that China will work with Pakistan to deepen economic, agricultural and educational cooperation, and increase youth exchanges, so as to promote the strategic partnership.

Pakistan's prime minister, in turn, vowed to continue to join hands with China to push forward bilateral relations and make the friendship last for generations.

During the meeting with Balkenende, Xi thanked the Netherlands for its support during the Beijing Olympic Games, Paralympic Gamesand this year's disastrous earthquake.

He said with the joint efforts of the two countries, the Sino-Dutch relationship has maintained sound development momentum.

"Under such a complex and changeable international, political and economic situation, to further develop the reciprocal relations between China and the Netherlands is in the fundamental interests of the two countries and peoples."

Xi noted China will continue friendly communications with the Netherlands on various levels, strengthen political trust, enhance cooperation in all fields and have close coordination in international affairs.

Balkenende congratulated China for successfully hosting the Beijing Olympic Games and the seventh summit of the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM).

He said China has scored great achievements since opening up to the outside world and is playing an increasingly important role international affairs.

Gilani and Balkenende are here for the seventh ASEM summit, which was held Oct. 24 to 25 in Beijing.
