A Chinese government delegation, escorting four rescued Chinese oil workers and the remains of another five who were killed by Sudanese militants after being kidnapped, have left Sudan and will return to China on Nov. 5.

The Sudanese government held a send-off ceremony for the departing delegation at Khartoum airport, attended by Chinese Ambassador Li Chengwen, Sudanese Minister of Energy and Mining Al Zubair Ahmed Al Hassan and other government officials.

During its stay in Sudan, the Chinese delegation expressed, on behalf of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee and the State Council, their condolences to the families of those murdered, and solicitude for the rescued workers and all other Chinese workers in Sudan.

The delegation spared no effort in Sudan to rescue the workers kidnapped by Sudanese militants with support from the Chinese Embassy and the Sudanese government.

The delegates also held a meeting there, reminding all the Chinese people working in Sudan to further strengthen their safety awareness to prevent such a disaster from happening again.

Nine Chinese workers of the Chinese National Petroleum Corporation were kidnapped by a group of local militants from an oilfield in the restive west Sudanese region of Darfur on Oct. 18.Five of them were murdered by their captors, while the remaining four were rescued.
