Chinese President Hu Jintao and Palestinian National Authority President Mahmoud Abbas exchanged congratulatory messages Wednesday to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.

In his message, Hu said the two sides have cooperated with each other in a trustful and supportive way since the establishment of diplomatic ties 20 years ago.

China, which attaches great importance to relations with Palestine, is willing to further bilateral cooperation at all levels and in all aspects, to push forward the friendly Sino-Palestinian ties, he said.

China will, as always, assist the Palestinian National Authority to develop its economy and improve the living standard of its people, he added.

Hu said China has always been a staunch supporter of the rightful cause of the Palestinians and the Mideast peace process.

China supports Palestine in its quest for the establishment of an independent state through dialogue and consultation at an early date and is ready to work with the international community to promote peace, stability, and development of the Middle East region, he added.

In his congratulatory message, Abbas thanked China for being a supporter of the rightful cause of the Palestinians.

He expressed hope for further consolidation and development of friendly cooperation with China.

Abbas said the Palestinian National Authority is committed to the Middle East peace process and the establishment of an independent state of Palestine.
