Venezuela's Vice President Ramon Carrizales met with a senior official of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) Caracas on Wednesday.
Carrizales welcomed the visit of Xu Caihou, vice chairmen of China's Central Military Commission, and said the relations between Venezuela and China have developed smoothly in recent years.
Both sides have carried out effective cooperation in crude oil exploitation, telecommunications, infrastructure construction and other fields.
As for the Taiwan issue, Carrizales said, the standpoint of Venezuela is clear and firm.
He believed that with the development of bilateral relations, the strategic partnership of both countries will continue to be deepened.
Xu said Sino-Venezuelan ties have made significant headway in recent years under the leadership of Chinese President Hu Jintao and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
Both sides have developed friendly ties in the political, economic, cultural, educational and military fields and have realized fruitful energy, agriculture, infrastructure and hi-tech cooperation, Xu said.
China and Venezuela have also cooperated closely and supported each other in international affairs.
As for relations between the two armies, Xu said the two militaries have had frequent exchanges, and are continuing to expand their fields of cooperation.
Xu was invited by Venezuelan Defense Minister Gustavo Rangel to visit the Latin American country.
