Leading Peruvian newspapers on Friday hailed the trade and economic relations between China and Peru and the conclusion of talks on a free trade agreement (FTA) between the two countries on Wednesday.
National daily La Republica said in a report that the FTA will promote Peru's exports and further strengthen economic growth of the Latin American country.
A sound economic relation with China will benefit the Peruvian people for generations, said the report.
The El Peruano newspaper said the conclusion of the FTA talks between China and Peru is a great achievement, and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum being held in the Peruvian capital has attracted attention from investors across the region.
"The Invest In Peru Forum" held in Lima on Thursday as part of this year's APEC Leaders' Week on Nov. 16-23 has attracted much attention from small and medium enterprises from China, the report said.
Over 100 Chinese enterprises participated in the event, according to the newspaper.
Local newspaper El Comercion quoted Peruvian President Alan Garcia as saying that the Peruvian government pledges to provide a sound investment environment for Chinese companies and protect their legal interests.
China's investment in Peru will help strengthen bilateral ties and trade and economic cooperation, said the report.
China and Peru released a joint press communique on Wednesday, agreeing to establish a "strategic partnership" and sign the FTA at an early date.
Peru is one of China's major trading partners in Latin America, with two-way trade volume totalling 6 billion U.S. dollars in 2007.
