The Chinese have become one of the most frequent foreign tourists arriving at Melbourne Airport. Experts from the tourist industry predict that China will soon replace New Zealand as the largest tourist market for Australia, according to Chinanews.com.

The number of Chinese tourists visiting Australia soared this year, ranking second only to New Zealand, while British tourists dropped to third. Statistics show, since September of this year, 244,375 Chinese have departed or arrived at Melbourne airport, about 7,600 more than British tourists, but about 200,000 fewer than tourists from New Zealand .

The number of Chinese tourists has already exceeded the number of Chinese students studying in Australia, marking a new-found fortune for Australia. According to forecasts by the local tourism administration, by 2013, China will become the largest source of tourists for Australia.
