A Chinese vice foreign minister will travel to New York to attend a meeting on Somali pirates, a Foreign Ministry spokesman announced on Monday.

"The United Nations Security Council will hold a ministerial meeting on Somali pirates on December 16, which Chinese Vice Foreign Minister He Yafei will attend," spokesman Liu Jianchao said in a statement.
