China, Indonesia pledge to enhance strategic partnership

China and Indonesia on Monday pledged to expand bilateral cooperation and enhance the strategic partnership between the two nations.

China's top legislator, Wu Bangguo, and top political advisor, Jia Qinglin, both expressed the wish to strengthen ties with Indonesia in separate meetings with Ginandjar Kartasasmita, chairman of the House of Regional Representatives of Indonesia.

Wu, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), China's top legislature, said China and Indonesia, both as developing countries, enjoyed complementary economies and had a great potential for bilateral cooperation.

China valued the strategic partnership with Indonesia, and would work with the country to expand pragmatic cooperation in economy, trade and other areas.

Wu said the NPC was ready to work with the Indonesian parliament to increase exchanges in various levels, so as to contribute to the growth of Sino-Indonesian relations.

Ginandjar said the relationship between his country and China is witnessing the best time in history and that bilateral cooperation in politics, economy and military have produced rich fruits

He expressed the hope to expand parliamentary exchanges with China and learn from China's development experiences.

Indonesia will continue to support's China's stance on the Taiwan issue, he said.

In his meeting with Ginandjar, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the national Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultation Conference, said CPPCC wishes to increase its exchanges with the Indonesian House of Regional Representatives.

He thanked Indonesia for its support to China in the Taiwan and Tibet issues, as well as its assistance to China after the devastating May 12 earthquake in Sichuan Province.

Ginandjar also met with CPPCC vice chairman Bai Lichen Monday.

Ginandjar was here on a visit to China from Dec. 19 to 25 at the invitation of the CPPCC.
