Reporters learned from China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) that the Zhejiang Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau (ZIQ) recently discovered soybeans coated with a blue substance contaminated with three pesticides, metalaxyl, fludioxonil and thiamethoxam, mixed in a batch of 57,000 tons of soybeans imported from the US. To protect consumers' health, ZIQ has required the importer to separate and deal with the soybean mix. In the meantime, AQSIQ has issued a warning bulletin requiring entry-exit inspection and quarantine agencies to adopt early-warning risk measures involving US soybeans exported to China for a period of 90 days.
By now, AQSIQ has briefed the US on the matter, and urged concrete measures be taken to strengthen the quality supervision on soybeans exported to China. At the same time, AQSIQ has required relevant departments to implement entry inspection and follow-up supervisory measures, strictly according to working procedures, to prevent an epidemic situation and toxic, harmful substances from entering the country in order to guarantee the safety of Chinese consumers.
