Visiting Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang has called on China and Egypt to combine advantages to explore international market, sources with the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.
Li made the remarks in his speech at a business forum Thursday in the Egyptian capital, amid his four-day official visit to the country.
He said Egypt has the advantage of a good geographic location, crossing Asia and Africa and nearing the Europe, while China is advantageous with high-level technologies and relatively complete services.
"The two sides should combine their advantages and explore the international market hand in hand," he stressed.
He said the Suez cooperation zone is a major and important project for China-Egypt economic and trade cooperation, and it is of strategic significance to do a good job in constructing the zone and to make full use of the zone. He added that China is ready to closely coordinate with the Egyptian side to establish working mechanism on promoting the project.
He also called on both sides to learn from each other's experiences in reform and development, enhance exchanges in such areas as technology, management, humanities, people's livelihood, and deepen cooperation in human resources.
Li emphasized that there has been not only desire for business cooperation between the Chinese and Egyptian enterprises, but also successful experiences of cooperation, thus seeing broad prospects for future cooperation.
The Chinese vice premier pledged that China will continue to provide aids and support within its ability to Egypt and expressed his hope that the Chinese enterprises in Egypt would continue to shoulder their duties to reciprocate the local society.
Egyptian Minister of Investment Mahmoud Safwat Mohieddin also attended business forum which draw more than 300 representatives from enterprises on transport, communication, finance, textile and construction areas of both countries.
Mohieddin acknowledged that Egypt and China share economic complementarity and a great potential for economic and trade cooperation, adding the two sides should make use of the advantages of each other to deepen cooperation and bring about benefits to the two peoples.
He hailed that China has made amazing achievements since its reform and opening up thirty years ago, which provide good opportunities for the exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.
He added that Egypt attaches great importance to learning from China's experiences and welcome China to strengthen cooperation with Egypt.
According to Chinese statistics, trade volume between China and Egypt reached more than 5.3 billion U.S. dollars as of October this year, a 44-percent increase compared with the same period of last year.
The export volume reached 4.914 billion dollars, up 41 percent. Though the import volume from Egypt was 395 million dollars, the growth rate registered a jump of 91 percent.
By the end of July, about 570 Chinese companies have invested in the northeastern African country.
During his visit, Li has met with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and held talks with Nazef on bilateral relations with the Arab world and Africa, and regional, international issues.
Egypt is the second leg of Li's first overseas trip since he took office as vice premier in March. The trip has brought him to Indonesia and will bring him to Kuwait.
Among his entourages are senior foreign affairs, development, commercial and banking officials.
