China has handed over 15 containers of vehicles, information equipment and other materials to Guinea-Bissau ahead of New Year's Day, news reaching here said on Thursday.
Chinese Ambassador to Guinea-Bissau Yan Banghua presented the donation to local officials at a hand-over ceremony held on Tuesday in the capital Bissau.
Guinea-Bissau Defense Minister Marciano Silva attended the ceremony, expressing appreciation of the "technical support" from China.
He said it was part of a three-year aid package of around 1.2 million U.S. dollars signed between the two countries several months ago.
Yan said China provides the gratuitous aid to Guinea-Bissau to strengthen friendly ties and cooperation between the two countries.
Guinea-Bissau, a West African country of 1.5 million population, successfully held a legislative election and foiled a coup attempt in November. The international community expects the vote to lead the country out of protracted instability. The country won its independence from Portugal in 1974.
