Vietnamese top legislator Nguyen Phu Trong said here on Monday that the relations between Vietnam and China are in a phase of healthy development, and he expected the two sides could make concerted efforts to advance bilateral relations to a new high.

Trong, who is the chairman of Vietnamese National Assembly, made the remarks when meeting with the newly-appointed Chinese ambassador to Vietnam Sun Guoxiang.

Last year, exchanges of high-level delegations of China and Vietnam were frequent, said Trong. Bilateral trade hit a record of21 billion U.S. dollars. At the end of the year, China and Vietnam completed the work of land border demarcation and erecting land border markers on schedule.

Trong said he hopes Ambassador Sun could further advance relations between Vietnam and China.

During the meeting, Sun said the Communist Party of China and Chinese government attached great importance on the development of relations with Vietnam. The top leaders of the two countries have decided to establish an all-round strategic partnership of cooperation between China and Vietnam, a move that serves the common interests of the two countries.

Sun said he was committed to enriching the bilateral all-round strategic partnership of cooperation during his term.
