A total of 228 countries and international organizations have confirmed to attend the World Expo Shanghai 2010 as of December 16, 2008, according to information from the meeting of the China Council for the Promotion of the International Trade (CCPIT).
Wan Jifei, Chairman of CCPIT, said this during the meeting currently being held.
Wan said that CCPIT actively took part in the preparations for the Shanghai Expo, in 2008, especially the inviting of countries that have yet to establish diplomatic relations with China.
In 2008, an additional six countries- the Marshall Islands, El Salvador, the Dominican Republic, Burkina Faso, Paraguay and Panama- confirmed they will attend the Expo.
To date, 14 out of 23 countries without diplomatic relations with China have confirmed attendance for the Shanghai Expo.
Costa Rica and Malawi have established diplomatic relations with China following their confirmation to attend the Expo.
