Blast was heard after an air raid siren sounded in northern Israel on Thursday morning, shortly after three rockets pounded the area.

Eyewitnesses said that a rocket landed near a kibbutz in the Western Galilee, causing no injuries or damage, while the police said that despite the explosion sound, no rocket landing sites has been detected.

Security sources were quoted as saying that they are looking into the possibility of a sonic boom.

Earlier, the Israeli media reported that it is a second barrage of rockets launched from Lebanon on northern Israel.

Hours earlier, three rockets fired from southern Lebanon landed in northern Israel, with one in the town of Nahariya. Israeli sources said two people were lightly wounded and several others suffered shock.

Israeli authorities have instructed local residents to stay near shelters, and school has reportedly been cancelled.

The Israeli army fired back in the earlier incident and investigation is underway. Initial assessments indicated that the barrage was likely to have been fired by Palestinian groups, though it could not be ruled out whether Hezbollah might have told them to fire, reported local daily The Jerusalem Post.

The incidents have generated speculations that the Jewish state might have to open a second front other than the ongoing onslaught in the Gaza Strip.
