Rwandan President Paul Kagame met with visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi here Wednesday on improving bilateral ties.

Kagame appreciated China's support and help for Rwanda's development, saying relations between China and Rwanda have developed smoothly. The president hoped that the two countries continue to strengthen cooperation in such fields as agriculture, trade, infrastructure and education.

The president spoke highly of China-Africa friendly and cooperative relations. He said China-Africa cooperation has been fruitful since the establishment of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

For his part, Yang said bilateral relations have developed smoothly since the two countries established diplomatic ties. He said strengthening cooperation of the two sides would help both countries keep steady economic and social development in the face of challenges brought by the ongoing global financial crisis.

The minister said China attaches great importance to the friendly and cooperative relations with African countries, adding that China will cooperate closely with African countries, fully fulfill the agreements reached at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and further promote China-Africa relations.

Also on the day, Yang held talks with his Rwandan counterpart Rosemary Museminali. Yang is currently on a six-nation tour to Uganda, Rwanda, Malawi, South Africa, Brazil and Portugal.
