EU has officially confirmed its participation in China’s 2010 Shanghai World Expo, according to news released by the Bureau of Shanghai World Expo Coordination on February 4. At present, EU and all its 27 member countries have confirmed their participation in the Shanghai Expo. By now, a total of 185 countries and 46 international organizations have confirmed that they will take part in the Expo.

In its letter of confirmation to take part in the Expo, EU points out that their attendance of the Shanghai Expo will break their usual practice of never attending World Expos held outside the Union. It reflects the special importance the EU attaches to the China-EU strategic partnership and also reveals the special importance the European business and cultural communities attach to China and to Shanghai, the venue of the World Expo.
